Our Course, His Steps

A joy of being missionaries is witnessing the LORD’s faithfulness. Time and again we see His ways, timing and provision are perfect.

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9

Our desire had been to complete funding by April 1 to construct a teaching, worship and event pavilion for 150 people on land we already own at Kingdom View in Uganda. God has drawn us within $10,000 of that original $25,000 goal through donations and favorable builder negotiations.

Our prayer is He will touch the hearts of those He wants to give; that they will respond in obedience to Him; and that they will be blessed as they are a blessing to others. (2 Corinthians 9:7) Some may want to provide ongoing ministry and missionary support (not enough funds for a housing allowance this month); while others may feel led to help with the pavilion.

God is rewarding us with heavenly treasures. (Matt 6:19-21) We see disciples rising from depression and defeat as they grasp their identity and freedom in Jesus. Saturday’s “Relationship Forum” at Kingdom View was particularly encouraging as two young men praised God for using us to lift them out of the despair of rejection. Earlier in the day, we had spoken to a choir group of about 25 and answered questions on how to nurture Godly male-female relationships. The choir prayer chairman asked Mark to mentor him. The student leader of the choir currently is mentored by Mark.

Meeting space outside in the shade is great when it isn't raining.
The reason we need a pavilion!
God also provided the opportunity last month for us to speak to 30 resident assistants on the Uganda Christian University campus. These students from each floor of each dormitory are shepherds to the 70 other students on their floor. We received an enthusiastic response as we talked about God creating each believer as His temple. (1 Co 3:16-17) We shared how to recognize and avoid sexual predators and unwanted sexual advances.

All this is in addition to our ongoing pre-marriage counseling (currently two couples) and Margaret’s ministry of guiding 8-12 students weekly during individual appointments to recognize their God-given skills. This helps them gain confidence for interviews, develop their resumes and strategize to launch their careers after university.  Many are beating the odds and finding professional jobs in Uganda. A few weeks ago a young man pulled Margaret aside at church thanking her enthusiastically for helping him get his new job.

All have jobs with large international corporations, banks or non-profit organizations. These are the types of blessings that sustain us.

We continue to pray for provision for day to day operations and for the next phase of construction.

With grateful hearts,

Mark and Margaret
